CHAIRMAN : Society for Education, Action & Research in Community Health (1997)
SEARCH was conceived by Dr. Bali in the year 1999 with an objective to plan, organize, implement and support community health promotion programmes for school-going children; to develop materials, methods and strategies for improved and sustainable health education for health care of communities, school children and individuals, and to conduct seminars and workshops with this end in view; to bring out journals, newsletters, bulletins in the field of education, hygiene and promotion of public health; to provide technical expertise in the field of community and school health promotion; to render expertise in community welfare; to assist and advise the Central/State Governments, Dental Associations and local authorities with regard to promotion of school and community health.
Keeping in view the rapidly deteriorating oral health in the country, the Society mooted a proposal to conduct an Oral Health Survey – the first of its kind in India – on international standards, using the expertise of local and outside Experts in order to equip
the dental profession and the government policy/decision-makers with data to shape oral health policy for India. The data is bound to be useful, authentic, comparable and part of the W.H.O. Global Data Bank on Oral Health. The data captured simultaneously from all parts of the country at a given point of time, is designed to serve as a concrete base-line for monitoring trends, patterns and changes in oral health of the country over a period of time, in future.
